Ocho Rios post office closed for renovation
Services relocated to Ocean Village Shopping Centre
THE OCHO Rios Post Office has been closed for major infrastructural work and all its services transferred to shop #26, Ocean Village Shopping Centre, situated on premises located across the road from the post office.
Kathy-Ann Yetman, public relations officer at Jamaica Post, told The Gleaner that the project should last between six and 12 months and is being sponsored by the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF).
“We will be doing major infrastructural renovation, including the roof, interior walls, and so forth. At the end of the day, we expect to have a much safer, cleaner, and prettier-looking building,” Yetman said.
She did not give a cost for the project but said that Jamaica Post was partnering with the TEF on the project.
She apologised for any inconvenience that may be caused, especially to private post office box holders.
“We crave their understanding at this time. They will be able to collect their mail at the new location. They won’t have to join the regular line.”
Yetman said that collection of rental fees for post boxes at Ocho Rios has been suspended until the renovation work has been completed. After that, the fee will be prorated.
Meanwhile, a week after the relocation, members of the public continued to turn up at the post office, only to find it closed yesterday. A notice printed on a sheet of paper has been placed on the building.
The new facilities are offering staff and clients a reduced space in which to conduct their business.
