Wisynco, JMA partner to encourage recycling at Expo Jamaica 2018

-

THE LARGEST biennial trade show in the Caribbean, Expo Jamaica, gets going today, with the opening ceremony slated for 5:30 p.m.

Under the theme ‘Advancing Breakthoughs’, the Jamaica Manufacturers’ Association (JMA) and the Jamaica Exporters’ Association (JEA), in collaboration with Jamaica Promotions Corporation, will be hosting Expo Jamaica 2018 from today through to Sunday.

More than 350 sellers and more than 600 buyers are expected for what will be a showcase of the best that Jamaica has to offer.

One highlight of this year’s show will be a partnership between the JMA and Wisynco to highlight the proper disposal of the millions of plastic containers used by Jamaicans each year.

“With manufacturers producing the bulk of locally consumed products, we found it important to use this platform to help educate visitors to the expo about the importance of recycling for our environment,” said William Mahfood, chairman of the Wisynco Group.

“We see this as an excellent opportunity to not only educate, but also to actively demonstrate that recycling is being done. Once companies and individuals are committed to the task, it becomes simple,” Mahfood added.

GETTING THE PUBLIC INVOLVED

With this partnership, the public is encouraged to collect plastic bottles in and around their environment and dispose of them in the Wisynco ECO recycling cage, which will be outside of the expo.

The estimated goal of collections for the event is 20,000 bottles.

Wisynco ECO is also calling on all participating manufacturers exhibiting at the event to show their corporate social responsibility and participate in the recycle drop.

“Expo Jamaica is pleased to be partnering with Wisynco ECO on their venture to bring awareness to the importance of recycling. Wisynco has and continues to be an advocate for the protection of the environment and Expo Jamaica, the leading trade show of the Caribbean, is the ideal platform to broadcast this crucial message,” said Imega Breese McNab, executive director of the JMA.

She added, “This is a true demonstration and commitment of the private sector that we are willing to play our role in the sustainable development of Jamaica for future generations.”

The 2018 Expo Jamaica programme will run from April 19-22.

Buyers’ days are April 19 and 20 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The public will be welcomed on April 20 between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m., and Saturday, April 21, and Sunday, April 22, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

‘This is a true demonstration and commitment of the private sector that we are willing to play our role in the sustainable development of Jamaica for future generations.’
