MoBay City Run partners with Hospiten and I Love MoBay Foundation

IN LIGHT of the challenges facing the Cornwall Regional Hospital, the Rose Hall-based international medical facility Hospiten is now the designated medical facility for the May 6 Mobay City Run.

According to event organiser Janet Silvera, Hospiten will provide an emergency room, should it be required, for resuscitation purposes.

In addition, Negril Life Call, which is also based in Rose Hall, will provide stationary and mobile ambulance services on the day of the race, which is set for a 6:00 am kickoff at the Old Hospital Park on Gloucester Avenue, Montego Bay.

“Hospiten has agreed to accommodate any emergencies and will set up an emergency room specifically for persons who might have any difficulties whilst running the race - mainly for resuscitation purposes, this is complimentary; nobody who happens to use it will be charged for accessing the service,” said Silvera.

“We do not want to put any pressure on Cornwall Regional Hospital because of the situation that currently exists there. So we approached Hospiten - which was the sensible thing to do by removing as much pressure as possible off Cornwall Regional and they agreed to come on board as a sponsor.”

STILL SUPPORTING

Nevertheless, Silvera said the Cornwall Regional Hospital will still be providing an ambulance and medical staff to support the event, as is customary.

Silvera added that MoBay City Run 2018 is hoping to attract 5,000 participants, and raise $5 million this year to provide scholarships for students from four tertiary institutions and one high school operating in western Jamaica.

The event is now in its fifth year and has raised and disbursed over $15 million in scholarships.

In addition to Hospiten, the I Love Mobay Foundation will also be partnering with The MoBay City Run. Describing the event as a “great initiative”, founder of the I Love Mobay Foundation, Douglas Gordon, said his organisation will be helping with the promotion of the event, and maintaining a presence on the day.
