Christafari debuts at one in new-look top five
WHAT A difference a week makes, when music which originates in Jamaica is being put out fast, furiously and spiritually. The last is because the new number one is Original Love by Christafari — the US group which announces its blend of faiths in its name. Not only is it top of the heap, but, as has been the case for the past few weeks, it is a new release.
The set by the fusion of spiritual outlooks is one of three new albums in the top five of the Billboard Reggae Charts for up to Saturday, April 28. Grateful Dub by Roots of Creation is not new to the weekly listing, as it is a former number one. However, in its fourth week on the chart, Grateful Dub has popped up in the number three spot. Anchoring the top five is another new release, albeit a shorter form, as the EP Good Day by One Rhythm has debuted at number five. The six-song set is all of 21 minutes long — or short.
The only album in the top five to retain its spot from last week’s listing is the number two Box Full of Steel, by The Dubplates. Last week’s number one, the Bumpin’ Uglies Beast From the East, is fourth this time around.
All that movement in the charts upper half means that two sets from last week’s top five are now in the lower half of the top 10. Damian ‘Jr. Gong’ Marley’s Stony Hill was third last week and is now at six now; while Romain Virgo’s Lovesick has tumbled from fourth all the way to 10. Chronixx’s Chronology is the week’s greatest gainer, even though it stays steady at number eight.
Rounding out the top 10 is Henricci’s EP Sister Caro at number seven, slipping a place from last week, and SOJA’s Poetry in Motion, which has reentered the chart at number nine to chalk up its 21st week on the listing.
