Start with Sunshine Cat

- Elton Tucker/Assistant Editor – Sports

THE PACY SUNSHINE CAT can give Sunrise-6 players a flying start in tomorrow’s opening event for four-year-old and up maidens over 1600 metres at Caymanas Park.

Trained by Carl Anderson, the fouryear-old filly has been very consistent in her last three starts and now gets a golden opportunity to get off the mark. On March 21, SUNSHINE CAT placed second over tomorrow’s distance to Dallas, crossing the line in a time, 1:44.2, only MOVIESTAR has gone close to. Expect SUNSHINE CAT to stay close to the early pace before pulling away from rivals in the last 300 metres.

UNUSUAL POSITION

Champion trainer Wayne DaCosta is in the unusual position of second in the trainers’ standings and sooner or later, he will be forced to show his hand. Tomorrow, he will put on show the three-year-old filly BARCELONA. She is by Natural Selection – Buyabook, which makes her a halfsister to the former champion sprinter Poker Star.

BARCELONA has been working well alongside overnight allowance campaigner Royal Vibes and is expected to get off the mark first time of asking in this moderate field.

DaCosta is poised to post a quick double in Race Three. Seven nonwinners of three horses will go 1700 metres, and UNCLE FRANK, with leading rider Anthony Thomas aboard, has a fairly easy task. On February 28, the four-year-old gelding went down by a neck, beaten by Biblical Legend, over the distance in the very good time of 1:47.4. His main rival, MUSKETOON, was almost eight lengths back and Thomas should make no mistake.

Another newcomer, SEND A MESSAGE TO MAMA, is strongly fancied to win Race Four. Owned by Trinidadian Stephan Narinesingh, the three-year-old colt has been working well alongside horses from the Anthony Nunes barn, including A.P.I. and BILINGUAL. The latter is highly fancied for the tenth, which is confined to overnight allowance company, so SEND A MESSAGE TO MAMA must be a good bet in this 1700 metres event for maidens.

Down-in-level CODED SECRET is fancied for the fifth over 1600 metres, while BIG MISTAKE is a five-star banker in the sixth for the Grooms Association of Jamaica Trophy. SUNRISE-6 SELECTIONS 1. SUNSHINE CAT 2. BARCELONA

3. UNCLE FRANK 4. SEND A MESSAGE TO MA MA 5. CODED SECRET

6. BIG MISTAKE
