Bailey clocks PB in Texas
LIFE AT Western Texas College seems to agree with Sean Bailey. In two seasons there, Bailey has dominated the 400m in indoor national junior college competition while steadily improving his personal best. The trend continued at the weekend in Lubbock, Texas, as the Jamaican cut his best to 45.24 seconds.
Running in a meet on the campus of Texas Tech University, the former St Jago High School student-athlete warmed up for a bid to win the National Junior College outdoor crown with a dominating run. While he clocked his personal best, he was unpressed as the runner-up was timed in 45.99 seconds.
He was third at the national outdoor meet last year.
Bailey, who was part of Jamaica’s bronze medalwinning 4x400m team at the 2016 World Under 20 Championships, has already won the indoor Junior Junior College Championship twice, with his 2018 win taking just 46.07 seconds.
His 2017 indoor title was won in a noteworthy time of 45.59 seconds. He left St Jago with a personal best of 46.51 but lowered that on several occasions during his sojourn in Texas. He improved to 45.76 outdoors last year and in April, did 45.53 seconds.
He was not the only Jamaican athlete to win in Lubbock. Kimisha Chambers, once of St Elizabeth Technical High School, took the 100m hurdles in 13.62 seconds.
