Ed Bartlett chosen for prestigious Asian Conference
POINTING TO significant contributions he made to the global tourism market, the Asian Leadership Conference (ALC) has chosen Jamaica’s tourism minister Edmund Bartlett to be guest speaker at the annual event which will be held in South Korea later this month.
In a letter obtained by The Gleaner, Sang-Hoon Bang, president and chief executive officer of the ALC, indicated that a major objective of this year’s conference is to contribute to the attainment of peace and prosperity in Asia. He noted that Bartlett’s work has been making an impact globally.
“Viewed as the world’s leading tourism minister, you have consistently made significant contributions to global tourism industry. Regarding the fact that economy and tourism are inextricably related, you have played a major role in economic growth and the transformation of communities by constructing tourism infrastructure.”
“Under your leadership, you initiated the Tourism Linkages Network, which seeks to develop connections between the tourism sector and other productive sectors of the economy. The issue of tourism has become social issue as the world is becoming more interconnected than ever before.”
He noted that the ALC 2018 will be a great platform to present the minister’s remarkable insights and to inspire people to come up with innovative ways to make a better world.
“You have generated catalytic influence in such field with your contribution and leadership while setting an example for many people.”
Since 2005, the ALC has featured a stellar line-up of speakers, including important world leaders such as former President Barack Obama of United States, former Prime Minister David Cameron of United Kingdom, Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India, President Joko Widodo of Indonesia, former President George W. Bush of the United States, former Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon of the United Nations and many others.
