THIS DAY IN OUR PAST
The following events took place on May 14 in the years identified:
1970:of A total of 31,086 acres
new development in agricultural lands has taken place during the last three years as a result of steps taken by the Land Development and Utilization Commission. The new development represents 31 percent of the approximately 100,000 acres of land which had been found idle by the commission after inspection. Figures compiled by the commission show that that body has served idle notices on 381 land-owners since it was constituted over three years ago. Various responses have been received by the commission from over 346 of the 381 landowners; and 288 have submitted development plans to the commission in respect of 58, 585 acres. Sources close to the commission have expressed the view that while the 31,086 acres of new development have been observed and documented by the commission’s staff, the total area developed as a direct consequence of the commission’s efforts is much more.

The PSOJ encourages all well-meaning Jamaicans, who are concerned, particularly about crime with a political motivation, to give this fund their support, no matter how small. 1982:National The Ministry of
