GORDON EYES SUB-50
AFTER A breakout season last year which saw her earning her first senior representation at the IAAF World Championships in London, Chrisann Gordon says she will be the next Jamaican female 400 metres runner to break the 50 seconds barrier.
Gordon came close to the coveted mark when she finished third at the 2017 Jamaica Senior Championship in a personal best 50.13.
And now that she is under the tutelage of renowned coach Lance Brauman in Florida and training with world champion in the event Shaunae Miller-Uibo, the former Holmwood Technical High standout believes that it will not be long before she dips under the 50 seconds barrier.
EXCITED TO RUN
“I did my PB in front of my home crowd last year and that was very special. I want to run 49 (seconds). I am very close to it and so I am hoping that I can do that this year,” Gordon told The Gleaner. “I really have a good coach and good training partners who are pushing me. It makes me excited to see what I am going to do.”
Gordon will face the starter in the women’s 400m tomorrow night at the 15th staging of the Jamaica International Invitational Meet at the National Stadium. She will be going against many times National Champion Stephenie-Ann McPherson, and American, Quanera Haye.
Gordon, who studied at the University of Texas, will be running in her second 400m race of the season as she tries to round herself back into shape.
“The reason you were not seeing me running so far this year, is because I switched coaches and it is an off year. So I am trying to get back in the grove of things. Everything is going well so far and I expect to run well here, I am in good shape,” Gordon said.
“This is something I have always wanted ever since I was in high school and college. And now I am getting the opportunity to run at the Jamaica International Invitational, I am really happy.”
