Making a stellar contribution to Ja’s development
FOR OVER 80 years, the Forestry Department has been at the forefront of strategic efforts to restore, revive, and sustain Jamaica’s natural resources. I extend heartiest appreciation and congratulations to the management and staff of the Forestry Department for their tremendous and stellar contribution to our nation’s sustenance, resources, and development.
The protection and conservation of the environment cannot be overstated, especially given the present-day circumstances that challenge nature, our appreciation of its value, and how we need to be cognizant of our role in this everchanging climate. The administration that I lead is determined to drive the transformation of the natural resources sector. We are very serious about issues such as climate change, which not only affects Jamaica, but the rest of the world.
I applaud the Forestry Department for its efforts to educate the nation on the importance of reforestation and landscape protection with the emphasis on both saving and planting trees. A nation that destroys its trees and forests destroys itself. It is also a reflection on how we treat each other.
WE ARE ALL TOUCHED BY FORESTS
We must commit to increase vigilance and public education on the importance of our forests. Future generations will rely heavily on the practical steps we have taken to make our country a green space and how knowledgeable we are as a nation on the importance of best practices and environmentally friendly solutions to develop and advance Jamaica. Additionally, we have to see the preservation of our forests as more than of value to ourselves as humans, but also for our wildlife animals, birds and fish. We are all impacted by the improvement of our forests and the environment.
I look forward to the continued work, determination, and effort of the Forestry Department in playing a leading role towards the sustainable development of our great nation. Congratulations on 80 years’ stellar contributions to the environment and to the nation.
