Volunteers ‘Ramp it Up’ in western Jamaica
HEALTH, EDUCATION, and the needs of the physically challenged were the focus of yesterday’s Labour Day activities in St James and Westmoreland as government representatives and other volunteers gave service in accordance with this year’s theme, ‘Ramp it Up, Fix it Up’.
In St James, the Montego Bay Type V Clinic and the infant department of the Lethe Primary and Infant School were the highlighted projects for the parish. Representatives of the Jamaica Defence Force, the Montego Bay Community College, the Urban Development Corporation, and other entities gave the clinic a well-needed facelift through painting, landscaping, and other improvement works.
“Montego Bay Type V is the flagship clinic in the parish of St James, serving the most citizens more than most other clinics,” Mayor Homer Davis told The Gleaner.
“When you come here in the days, you see activities upon activities and persons coming here to get treatment and to see the doctors. So the St James Municipal Corporation has taken the lead role in this initiative,” Davis added.
In Westmoreland, the parish project took the form of repainting the Little London Post Office and building a wheelchair ramp. Savanna-la-Mar’s mayor, Bertel Moore, was part of the work crew that also carried out landscaping and beautification of the area.
