Robinson’s baseless accusations
THE EDITOR, Sir:
THE GLEANER on Wednesday, May 25, published an article ‘Robinson wants oversight bodies to probe Petrojam’, where opposition Member of Parliament Julian Robinson called for an investigation into the state-owned oil refinery.
I have always thought of Mr Robinson quite highly and would like to think that he is one of the persons who bring some value to the Opposition; however, his recent utterances have led me to question this. I am having great difficulty understanding why Mr Robinson would expose himself to ridicule in the wake of his baseless accusations. I say baseless because he provided no proof of what he said in Parliament.
In fact, he requested the intervention of the auditor general in the matter, but even I know that Petrojam is audited annually by the overseeing body.
This is certainly a case of ‘mouth mek fi chat’. I believe that the performance of the company speaks for itself.
As a government-run company, Petrojam has to conduct due diligence in hiring anyone– individual or company. This is not the remit of the minister, to whom these accusations are being brought against.
Mr Robinson needs to present the facts and proof, if any. He must be more responsible and not scare the public into a frenzy with mindless chatter.
