A vital part in strengthening organisations

WHEREAS INTERNAL auditing is a vital part of strengthening organisations and protecting stakeholders of both the public and private sectors;

and whereas internal auditing helps identify and manage organisations’ risks and ensures that policies, procedures and controls are in place and working appropriately;

and whereas internal auditing is an increasingly sophisticated and complex activity requiring specialised knowledge, training and education;

and whereas internal auditing is an established profession, led by the Institute of Internal Auditors, with a globally recognised code of ethics and international standards for the professional practice of internal auditing;

and whereas the contribution of internal auditors to the success of organisations and the global economy at large deserves our recognition and commendations;

I, Patrick Linton Allen, Member of the Order of the Nation, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Commander of the Order of Distinction, Knight of Grace of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem, Governor-General of Jamaica, do hereby proclaim the month of May each year as International Internal Audit Awareness Month and encourage all citizens of Jamaica to join in recognising internal auditors for their contribution.
