The largest chapter in the Caribbean for the past 10 years

-

I EXTEND hearty congratulations to the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Jamaica Chapter. The chapter has distinguished itself as a professional body that has assisted both the public and private sectors in achieving their corporate and national objectives.

The chapter continues to distinguished itself as a gold chapter, which signals achievement at the highest level of the internal audit profession worldwide. The chapter also holds the distinction of being the largest chapter in the Caribbean for the past 10 years and continues to experience numerical growth year after year. As the IIA district representative for the Caribbean West chapters, I applaud the effort of the chapter for its innovation and tremendous effort to lead the Caribbean chapters in the celebration of Internal Audit Awareness Month during the month of May each year. This year is no exception as plans had been tabled for Jamaica’s celebration in 2018. These plans included a church service, the chief audit executive’s round-table breakfast, training seminars, a business conference and relaxing during the harbour cruise.

I note also the achievement of holding your monthly meetings, your customised training seminars and the strategic initiative in partnering with other professional bodies in order to raise the level of awareness of corporate governance. Internal auditing must continue to be relevant not only to the members of the profession, but also to the boards, audit committee and executive management in all companies in order for the profession to continue to add value to their overall objectives.

As you continue to strive for excellence, I commend the president and the 2018 leadership team for their focus in ensuring that IIA Jamaica’s flag continues to fly high not only in Jamaica, but across the Caribbean and, indeed, the world.
