1916:Jamaica Enos Nuttall, bishop of

and archbishop of the West Indies, dies peacefully at Bishop’s Lodge. The death of the archbishop did not come as a shock to the community as since December 1915, the aged prelate and statesman had not been in the best of health and was confined to his bed a few weeks ago. His medical attendants were Frank Saunders and R. S. Turton. Every possible attention was given to His Grace, but as he lay in his bed, conscious that he would soon be gathered to his Father, the archbishop prayed fervently for Jamaica and the people of Jamaica. At ten minutes to eight, it was perceptible that the end had come, and, lifting his eyes heavenwards to the Father by Whose guidance he had been able to accomplish so much, he commended to him his spirit, and so passed the ‘Grand Old Man’ of Jamaica.

1982:St Some 300 children in

James are immunised at the Church Street Health Clinic, Montego Bay, against poliomyelitis. Health sources in the parish are tight-lipped about the matter, but The Gleaner is reliably informed that there are some serious cases of poliomyelitis which have been admitted in the Cornwall Regional Hospital. The children admitted are reportedly suffering from vomiting, pains from the waist down, and diarrhoea. One girl child is said to have died on Sunday, May 30, from the disease.
