Improved Bailey-Cole shines at All Comers Meet
FOLLOWING AN average performance a week earlier in the men’s 100m at the third JAAA All Comers Meet, former Commonwealth Games 100m champion Kemar Bailey-Cole showed remarkable improvement in the event to top the field on Saturday at the fourth All Comers Meet inside the National Stadium.
With several other athletes showing improvement, Bailey-Cole, competing for Racers Track Club, clocked 10.32 seconds, the fastest time of the day, to win his heat. His Racers teammate, Englishman Miguel Francis, was second overall after taking his heat in 10.36 seconds. Third overall went to Oraine Palmer, running unattached, in 10.39 seconds. Francis continued his good form in the 200m after being on top in the event for the second week in a row. Warming up for this Saturday’s JN Racers Grand Prix, he stopped the clock at 20.72 seconds (-0.8mps wind).
Cameron Blazers Track Club’s Andel Miller won his heat in 21.31 seconds to be second overall, with Ian Kerr, competing unattached, taking third in 21.62 seconds. Former outstanding Calabar High School sprinter Michael O’Hara showed some improvement on his performance the previous week, where he clocked 22.12 seconds by finishing fourth in his heat and sixth overall in 21.68 seconds. Competing for the first time for his new MVP Club, Commonwealth Games 400m hurdles bronze medallist Jaheel Hyde had to settle for second in his pet event in 50.13 seconds, behind Javern Gallimore of Swept Club, who won in 49.95 seconds. Commonwealth Games representative Ricardo Cunningham of Quality Performance Center won his heat in 51.22 seconds for third overall. In the field events among the males, MVP’s Odayne Richards topped the men’s shot put with a heave of 20.27m. Among the juniors, Calabar High’s Kai Chang was best with 16.86m. Petersfield High’s Courtney Lawrence was second with 16.71m, with third going to Chang’s teammate, Cobe Graham, with 15.93m.
BEST PERFORMANCE
Cameron Blazers’ Tiffany James had the best performance on the day among female athletes. James captured her heat of the 200m in a joint career best of 23.33 seconds as Ashley Williams (24.08s) of GC Foster College, and Stacy Williams (24.16s) of St Elizabeth Technical High School ended second and third overall, respectively.
It was a very close affair in the women’s 400m, but in the end, the very improved Derriann Hill of the University of Technology (Utech) prevailed, winning in 53.89 seconds. Candice McLeod of the University of the West Indies ended second in 53.94 seconds, with third overall going to Utech’s Junelle Bromfield in 53.96 seconds.
Commonwealth Games 100m hurdles bronze medallist Yanique Thompson improved on her performance of the previous week in the event, winning in 13.09 seconds ahead of Nickeisha Wilson, competing unattached, in 13.29 seconds.
