Pulse eyes region for Resort Fashion Week sales

- Marcia Rowe/Gleaner Writer

PULSE HAS an innovative idea for Caribbean Fashion Week (CFW) 2019 and shared it with the media and fashion connoisseurs at a semiformal glitzy affair at Pulse Rooms at Trafalgar Road, New Kingston, on Friday. The three hours of pleasantries unfolded like a family reunion as guests greeted friends and acquaintances and met new ones. They acknowledged the excellent choice of music selected as entertainment for the event.

Much later, Kingsley Cooper, chairman of Pulse, addressed the guests. He highlighted Pulse’s global impact and said the trend would continue with CFW’s latest initiative, Resort Fashion Week 2019, to take place in Kingston, Jamaica, and other major cities around the world. One of the main objectives of Resort Fashion Week is to give designers an opportunity to sell their products within the Caribbean. “This focus on our ‘low-hanging fruit’ is an excellent, more achievable and more efficient way of building brands and exporting markets within the region,” Cooper said. Some of Pulse’s international stars, such as Alicia Burke, Oraine Barrett and Jeneil Williams, will play significant roles in Resort Fashion Week.

But there was more to the evening's offering, such as the announcement of the completion of the 20-room facility, Pulse Rooms, at Trafalgar. The Airbnb space will open to the public in 60 days. Through it, Pulse plans to take advantage of its superb location close to Devon House and the Bob Marley and Peter Tosh museums to carve a niche in the cultural tourism market.

Guests were invited to tour the space in small groups, but not before being informed that only one of the rooms was available for viewing. Cooper’s brief address was followed by the showing of some pieces from former Pulse model and now international designer Lois Samuels’ collection, The Vessel.
