Saluting his tremendous contribution to alma mater, law
We salute Stephen Shelton as a deserving recipient of the 2018 Carlton Alexander Award for his contribution to the Jamaica College community and excellence in the field of law.
STEPHEN MICHAEL Shelton, Q.C., B.Sc. (Govt.), LLB (Hons.), FCI Arb, is one of the honourees at this year’s staging of the Carlton Alexander Awards Dinner.
Shelton went to Jamaica College (JC) from 1961-1968 as a boarder and was involved in numerous sporting disciplines, such as cricket, shooting and the athletics.
He was equally active with the service and academic clubs and was a member of the debating team, the magazine committee, the science club, as well as the science exhibition team.
A natural leader, he was a school prefect and houses captain for both his junior and senior house.
After leaving JC and enrolling at the University of the West Indies, he pursued studies in law, which saw him going to Barbados.
Shelton was equally as active in his university years, which saw him being part of the guild, shooting team, debating society, and football team, and being editor of the Pan Africanist Magazine. Most of this was during his years at the UWI, Cave Hill campus. Shelton has been a renowned practitioner in the legal field, serving for approximately 45 years in various capacities with the prestigious law firm Myers, Fletcher & Gordon from since 1975. During his long tenure with the firm, he has risen to the position of managing partner and now operates in the capacity of consul.
He has successfully represented numerous companies and individuals throughout his long and distinguished career, which has also resulted in him being asked to represent both Jamaica and CARICOM.
Shelton serves as a member of the JC trust and is actively involved in the affairs of the institution. We salute Shelton as a deserving recipient of the 2018 Carlton Alexander Award for his contribution to the Jamaica College community and excellence in the field of law.
