Kiwanian leadership prospects urged to know their purpose
ONE OF the Goals of Kiwanis Division 23 East’s 2017-18 Lieutenant Governor, Sharon D. Williams, is to strengthen the leadership capacity of Kiwanians. With this in mind, she launched a leadership development programme on January 20 this year for 21 Kiwanians who demonstrated the willingness and aptitude to lead at the club and divisional levels.
The programme culminated in a graduation ceremony last Saturday where guest speaker Courtney Campbell, president and CEO of the Victoria Mutual Building Society, encouraged the graduates to pursue their purpose and vision.
“Once you know what your purpose and vision in life are, then you will be empowered to become great leaders,” Campbell stressed.
Robert ‘Bobby’ Moo Young, governor of the Kiwanis Eastern Canada & Caribbean District, spoke to the importance of succession planning in Kiwanis and developing leaders and not just managers, as in any organisation.
The leadership development programme included the following:
1) January – Kiwanis Protocol, Policies & Procedures and Business Etiquette. Facilitated by Distinguished Lieutenant Governor of Excellence Leighton McKnight (Division 23 East) and Distinguished Lieutenant Governor Julaine Lumsden (Division 23 West)
2) February – Building your Personal Brand. Facilitated by Tishan Lee
3) March – Leadership & Communication. Facilitated by Tanya Powell and Marcia Woon Choy Associates Ltd, certified business coach
4) April – Budgeting & Financial Management. Facilitated by Oliver Tomlinson
5) May – Team Building & Performance Management. Facilitated by Gillian Chambers
