A Thread of Hope:

YOUNG AUTHOR PENS CHRISTIAN ROMANCE NOVEL

- LYSSONS, ST THOMAS: familyandreligion@gleanerjm.com

WHEN ONE thinks of Christian literature, numerous devotionals, purpose-coaching and lifestyle guides that have become very popular among Jamaican authors come to mind.

But what about a romance novel that the people of God won’t feel guilty indulging in?

The Christian ‘love book’, A Thread of

Hope, was recently launched by young author Patrice Hannah, the moniker under which resident of Top Hill in Lyssons, St Thomas, Hannah-Lee Hitchman writes.

Having already published six novels, the 23-year-old told FAMILY AND

RELIGION that this, her latest work, is very special to her.

“A Thread of Hope is sort of a milestone for me since I wrote erotic fiction and fantasy before, but when I became born-again, I decided to use my writing skills in a more appropriate genre,” she said, describing the piece as “282 pages of clean, faith-based romance”.

INSPIRATIONAL FAITH

The book tells the story of a young woman who lost everything and must find a way to support herself. But she didn’t lose her faith in God, and through it all, she manages to inspire others she meets along the way, even striking up an unexpected but fulfilling romance. Giving further insight, Hitchman shared the blurb to what is expected to be an interesting story.

“When she’d written a letter to Lady Ascalden requesting an employment opportunity, Angerona Sheridan had not expected to become the dowager’s companion, let alone be courted by her son ...

Breccan Ascalden, chief lord of the Aligoron parish, knew it was high time he remarried. But the sting of his previous wife’s betrayal was still fresh, the grief of his father’s death still gnawing at his heart. But when he meets the lovely Miss Sheridan, he instantly sets out to claim her. Except he did not foresee her faith being a part of the bargain ...”

The aim of the book, according to its author, is to encourage readers in love.

“We all need love – love is of God – but not simply what man perceives as love, but a love that exceeds one’s own desires, one’s own happiness. When we look beyond our own feelings and are able to connect with people in such a way, we experience true joy. That joy is far greater and much more fulfilling than mere happiness. I always say happiness is what we feel when our own interests are satisfied, but joy is both: when we are able to make someone else smile along the way. And we can only experience that through having a relationship with God through Christ. When we achieve that, what we even consider to be romance changes and we see that pure love, even in its simplest form, is the only love. That’s what I want readers to get from my book. Look, I believe God loves romance, and His idea of it is the best one there is. You just won’t go wrong there,” Hitchman said.

A Thread of Hope is available on Amazon and at Barnes & Nobles and is expected to be on the local market in the near future.
