JAMAICA WOMEN made a winning start in their quest to claim the regional double following a commanding seven wickets win over Trinidad and Tobago Women at Kensington Park yesterday in the opening round of the West Indies Women’s Super50.
Jamaica, winners of the T20 Blast earlier this week, were set 226 runs to win after the Trinidadians scored 225 for nine off their allotted 50 overs.
Pace Roshana Outar, two for 32, and off-spinner Vanessa Watts, two for 29, were the chief wicket-takers with support coming from Chinelle Henry, one for 16.
This was against Felecia Walters, who made 61, Lee Ann Kirkby 47, and captain Merissa Aguilleira, 33 not out.
Jamaica, in their reply, were powered by an unbeaten 98 from captain Stafanie Taylor, with sidelined West Indies opener, Natasha McLean, scoring 35.
Also getting among the runs were the inform Chadean Nation, 29, and rookie Rashada Williams, 26.
Elsewhere, Barbados defeated Windwards by 47 runs at Sabina Park.
Barbados first made 230 for nine off 50 overs before restricting the Windwards to 183 for nine off 46.
Meanwhile at Chedwin Park, Guyana beat Leeward Islands by 65 runs.
Guyana posted 229 for nine off 50 overs before returning to bowl out Leewards for 164.
