Valken’s Pharmacy gives back

- Sandra Cato/Feature Writer

FOR VALRIE Marston of Valken’s Pharmacy “contribution to your customer and your community is a central requirement for you to become an even more valuable person in every area” and by this adage she lives, giving back to the community of Hopewell where she operates the pharmacy. She cites one of the keys to the success of her business is to “love people, and money will come chasing you”. She says of her staff. “Our team is built on enduring friendship and concern for the personal welfare of each other, first and foremost.”

A dedicated and active member of the Hopewell Baptist Church and a Kiwanian, Marston serves her fellow citizens in the church, and secularly in the wider community. Valken’s Pharmacy is a generous contributor to the Hopewell Baptist Church back-toschool project on an annual basis, donating books, school bags, and other school paraphernalia to the venture. Benefactors include the Bethel Primary and Junior High School and each year, Valken’s Pharmacy donates a grant to the top-performing girl in the GSAT exams. She is a Sunday-school teacher and was voted the the Adult Teacher of the Year 2017 for the Jamaica Baptist Union. She was the first runner-up the previous year.

Noted as an eloquent speaker, Marston, a justice of the peace, has given motivational speeches and did informal counselling to students in the town. She believes in “continuous improvements in every area of business and personal life, as if you are not getting better, you are getting worse”.
