1966:made An approach is to be
to the Government by the All-Island Jamaica Cane Farmers Association (AIRJCFA) for assistance to acquire Holland Sugar Factory in St Elizabeth. Simultaneously, an approach is to be made to get assistance for The Gray’s Inn factory to remain in operation. These are the high-points of a press release by the committee of management of the AIJCFA. The release comes after a small executive group of the association considers the situation of both factories on Tuesday, July 5, and the committee of management ponders proposals from this group all day. It is understood that in the course the day, contacts are made with sources close to the Holland directorate to try to get a price for the takeover, but AIJCFA leaders are noncommittal when questioned on this matter later. pier development project and the Government’s export marketing programme take two government ministers to New York on business connected with the two operations. Leaving from Palisadoes Airport are Edward Seaga, minister of development and welfare, and Herbert Eldemire, minister of health. Mrs Seaga accompanies her husband. Mr Seaga tells The Gleaner in an interview at the airport that he is going on Government business in connection with the selection of specialists under the Export Marketing Programme arranged by the Jamaican Government coordinator in New York, Isabel Barringer.
