The following events took place on July 10 in the years identified:

1968:

Government is preparing the two internatio­nal airports Palisadoes and Sir Donald Sangster Airport, to meet the challenge of the jumbo Jet age, which is expected to come in early 1970. Then, a single aircraft will be unloading 390 passengers, and this massive air traffic is expected to stimulate further expansion of the tourist i ndustr y. Another step towards getting the airports in shape to accommodat­e the jumbo jets is taken when the minister of communicat­ions and works, Cleve Lewis, signs on behalf of the Government a contract with representa­tives of two United States firms for the study of comprehens­ive developmen­t of airport facilities in Jamaica.

1971:

The youth training programme sponsored by Desnoes and Geddes begins at with 42 youths in attendance. Among the absentees are cricket players from Cornwall College, winners of the Spalding Cup. They are, however, expected to join the camp shortly. The squad will also be increased by two with the addition of Noel Martin and Donald Williams from Happy Grove. Coaching is conducted by J. K Holt Jnr. The other coach, Alfred Valentine, is still recuperati­ng from his recent illness but is expected to join Holt shortly.

1985:

A Two-pronged assault on the plague of garbage-choked streets i n the Corporate Area begins taking shape with the tabling in Parliament of an act to introduce stiffer penalties for littering. Simultaneo­usly, a newly created company under the Urban Developmen­t Corporatio­n embarks on a garbage collection and disposal programme, inviting tenders for street and gully cleaning within specified zones.
