Goule in spotlight again
FOLLOWING HER impressive National 800 metres record run of 1:56.15 in Monaco two days ago, Natoya Goule will head seven Jamaicans, including four national champions, in action on today’s final day of the two-day Diamond League meet in London.
Goule will once again compete in the two-lap event, where she is the top seed. Her main challenge should come from American Ce’Aira Brown, who has a season and personal best of 1:58.65.
Shericka Jackson will be hoping for more success in the 200 metres. She has been having a very good season, and today, she will face the outstanding Cote d’Ivoire duo of Josée Marie Ta Lou and Murielle Ahoure, who have been hot in the 100 metres this season, along with Jenna Prandini of the United States, former World champion Dafne Schippers of the Netherlands, and home girl, Dina Asher Smith.
Danielle Williams will line up in the women’s 100m hurdles, where there will be two heats. She will be hoping to improve on her season’s and personal best of 12.48 seconds when she comes up against world leader Brianna McNeal of the United States with 12.38 and her compatriot Sharika Nelvis with a season’s best 12.52.
National champion, Stephenie McPherson and Anastacia LeRoy will be the other Jamaican women in action today and they will line up in the 400 metres where they will face top seed Courtney Okolo of the United States, who has a season’s best of 50.65.
National 110m hurdles champion Ronald Levy and 400m specialist Akeem Bloomfield will be the Jamaican men in action.
TOP SEED
With a season’s best 13.16 seconds, Levy is the top seed in the hurdles event, and his main competition is expected from American Devon Allen, who has a 2018 best of 13.23, and Englishman Andrew Pozzi with 13.29.
After a second-place finish in the 200 metres in his debut Diamond League in Rabat, where he posted a personal best 20.00 seconds, Bloomfield will be hoping for a sub-20 clocking today when he competes in the half-lap event. Here, he will face the in-form Alex Quinonez of Ecuador, who is coming off a second-place finish in the event two days ago in Monaco, and Alonso Edwards of Panama, who has a season’s best of 19.90.
