Call for youth to enter ‘Get to know India’ quiz

HE GOVERNMENT of India is organising a quiz contest and is encouragin­g youth to participat­e. The Bharat Ko Janiye (Get to know India) Quiz is open to persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), as well as Foreign Nationals between the ages of 15 and 35 years.

According to a communique from the High Commission of India in Jamaica, the quiz is being staged to motivate overseas youth to enhance their knowledge of India.

Topics of the quiz include Indian art, Indian democracy, economy, geography, personalit­ies in music and dance, science and technology, languages and literature, education, tradition of

Indian crafts, Indian cinema ad renowned personalit­ies.

The entire quiz will be organised in four rounds. The first round is scheduled for September 16 30 and will be conducted by the High Commission of India, Kingston.

Overseas contestant­s can participat­e in the quiz test from any part of the world during this period.

The second round will be conducted online by the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi. The third round (semi-final) and fourth round (final) will be held in New Delhi, India. The top ten finalists in each category (NRI, PIO, foreign nationals) in the second round will be invited to participat­e in New Delhi. These top ten finalists will also attend the workshop in New Delhi and participat­e in the Bharat Ko Janiye Yatra (Get to know India tour), a 15-day tour of India. The top three winners in the final round will be honoured and awarded with medals at the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas or non-resident Indian convention, which is observed to mark the contributi­on of the overseas Indian community towards the developmen­t of India. The day commemorat­es the return of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa to Mumbai on January 9, 1915. January 2019 Pravasi Bharatiya Divas will be held in the city of Varanasi in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

The last date for registrati­on is September 15, 2018. The quiz will be open to contestant­s from September 16-30, 2018.
