A phoenix rising from the ashes
THE LINSTEAD Hospital serves a large population in St Catherine, Clarendon, St Andrew, St Ann and St Mary. With the opening of the toll roads in the area, it has become even more critical as it serves a wider area.
The hospital has had a checkered history in terms of relevance, as various persons have advocated for its closure over time. This resulted in the hospital being downgraded in the 1980s. However, within recent years, a group of persons recognising the value and importance of the institution came together with the sole purpose of restoring the hospital to its former glory.
With determination, firstly as the Linstead Hospital Restoration Committee and presently as the Linstead Hospital Redevelopment Committee, significant progress has been made in transforming the hospital into a state-of-the-art facility. Like the phoenix rising from the ashes, the Linstead Hospital celebrates over 100 years of continuous existence.
The Redevelopment Committee considers it a great achievement and commends the various personnel from the Ministry of Health, religious, civic and corporate groups for coming on board. Recognition is also extended to the dedicated medical and ancillary staff, both past and present, for their hard work and diligence, sometimes under strenuous circumstances.
The Redevelopment Committee congratulates the Linstead Hospital on this anniversary celebration and looks forward to the continued development and preservation of the institution.
