JAMAICA’S LESGAR ‘Speedy’ Murdock won his second title yesterday at the Pan American Handgun Championships when he captured the Open Division shoot-off at the Jamaica Rifle Association on Mountain View Avenue in Kingston.

Murdock, who won the Open Division title on Thursday, turned back challenges from eight other competitors yesterday.

Daniel Minaglia of Argentina was second, while third place went to Phillip Reddy from Canada.

Michael Burrell of Canada won the shoot-off in the Standard Division ahead of his teammate Jena-Paul Job, while third went to Alessandro Nascinmento of Brazil.

The Classic Division shoot-off was won by Mike Foley from United States ahead of his teammates Joy Koller and Roy Steadman.

The Production Division shoot-off competition was captured by American Casey Reed, while second went to Emmanuel Pornillos of Canada, with third going to teenager Justine Williams of the United States.

Alistair Stewart, secretary of the JRA, said the championships was very entertaining because all the participants enjoyed themselves.

“It was a lot of work, but we are happy to do the work. The shoot-off was very exciting because there were plenty of close competitions all the way up to the finals,” Stewart said.

He added that he had received a lot of positive feedback from the competitors during the championships.

“I think that they were well challenged by the stages that were set here, and I think, overall, they have enjoyed their visit to Jamaica,” Stewart noted.
