Reynolds in charge at MBU
VASSELL REYNOLDS has confirmed that he will be leading Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) outfit Montego Bay United (MBU) into the upcoming season.
He was spotted at the club’s training session last Thursday following reports that the Rusea’s High School daCosta Cup coach and physical education teacher would take charge of the two-time RSPL champions as head coach.
“As of now, I can confirm that I would have been working with the club for two weeks now,” Reynolds told The Gleaner.
Reynolds, who is still in the process of familiarising himself with the club and its players, said he couldn’t pass up the opportunity to coach a club of MBU’s status.
“I am impressed with the structure that is here in terms of organisation and professionalism. One has to say it’s one of the bestorganised clubs, if not the best, in the country,” said Reynolds, who will be assisted by former club captain Dwayne Ambusley. The two of course know each other well as the former midfielder also assists Reynolds at Rusea’s.
“What I can say is that I will add my own philosophies. I’m given the mandate to be the head coach and totally in charge, along with my assistants. So yes, I am very humble and appreciative of the fact that a club of this magnitude would have offered me such position,” Reynolds added.
Reynolds is more known for his success at the schoolboy football level, winning the Walker Cup (2015) and the FLOW Super Cup (2016) at Wolmer’s Boys School before last year adding the daCosta Cup to his collection in his first year at Rusea’s. He, however, is confident that he has the tools and experience to coach successfully at the RSPL level.
“I would have started some years ago with the Sporting Central Academy, and I would have done a lot of senior coaching since then. Most recently, I would have gone in for the second half of the Reno campaign, and prior to that, two half seasons with the Humble Lion setup, taking them to the semi-finals. I think I have adequate experience there (at the senior level), so this is a win-win for both parties, and I’m looking forward to the task,” Reynolds said.
