Digicel Foundation building stronger communities

-

AT DIGICEL, our foundation is at the heart of all we do so from the very beginning, we made a decision that the best people to drive the Digicel Foundation were Digicel staff members. With our three main portfolios of special needs, education and community development, there’s something to tug on everyone’s heartstring, and our employees are always willing to commit their time and energy to serving the needs of our fellow Jamaicans.

We work to invest in sustainable development programmes simply because we believe in building stronger, more resilient communities. Communities that are supported by an ecosystem that includes improved education at the early-childhood, primary and secondary levels; entrepreneurial initiatives that provide economic wherewithal; and improved access, agency and inclusion for persons with special needs.

We could never do it without our staff, and by involving them, the communities we support benefit from us not only financially, but also from our skills, teamwork and dedication to making a difference in Jamaica. Our board is primarily made up of Digicel employees, and among the wider staff, each employee is invited to be involved and is entitled to a minimum of one paid day off per year to volunteer in our activities.

At events like our annual Digicel 5K for Special Needs in October, we invite all of Jamaica to get involved and help us create a world where no one gets left behind. Last year, we had more than 10,000 people taking to the streets of downtown Kingston running for a cause. We’re proud to have invested in excess of US $34 million over the years in 1,207 projects, impacting 623,598 people. At Digicel, we do it for Jamaica.
