Badree believes he has big role to play with Tallawahs
JAMAICA TALLAWAHS’ veteran leg-spinner, Samuel Badree, says although he does not come into the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) on the best form, he believes he has a big role to play later at the business end of the tournament.
The former T&T Red Steel and St Kitts & Nevis Patriots representative, says he is enjoying his experience with the Tallawahs and wants to help them win a third title this year.
“This is a new experience ... But it’s a good group. I have fitted in quite nicely, we gelled pretty quickly and I am looking forward to winning the title a third time for the Tallawahs. I am not coming off too good a form, but as a professional sportman you have to be ready.
“One good performance and your confidence is back up, so I am just looking to get on the park and do my part for this team,” he told The Gleaner.
“I see myself having to play a part as we go deeper into competition. It will be difficult to get into the starting eleven initially, but it’s a long competition, and you never know when you will be called on ,” The Trinidad ian added.
Badree admitted there were a lot of questions marks around the team before the start of the tournament, but said their win and André Russell’s performance against the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) will serve as a warning to those who doubt their capabilities.
“It was really good to get one on them. We got a lot of confidence knowing we can chase any total. They are defending champions and the team to beat. They got a good victory against St Lucia in the first game and had the crowd behind them, so they had everything going for them.
“But they were shell-shocked, as they did not expect that sort of innings from André Russell, none of us did. Russell on debut as captain really showed the class he is, Superman as he is called, and now everyone has grown in confidence. But this shows the rest of the teams that we are a strong team and they should look out for us,” he said.
