Young Jamaican entrepreneur selected to attend Edinburgh International Culture Summit
NICHOLAS KEE, from Spanish Town, St Catherine, will be representing Jamaica at the Edinburgh International Culture Summit, which takes place in the Scottish capital city from August 22-24, 2018. Kee is the co-founder and executive director of Next Gen Creators, a non-profit organisation aimed at promoting youth software development and tech-entrepreneurship in the Caribbean.
The British Council, in a release, said that it is supporting Kee’s participation.
This year’s Edinburgh International Culture Summit brings together internationally respected names from literature, politics, the arts, and media to discuss culture in a networked world, one of three strands being explored at this powerhouse of international discussion.
Kee, who will be a member of the ministerial delegation heading to Edinburgh, shared his excitement at being selected for this opportunity.
“I’m honoured to be selected as a delegate to attend the Culture Summit in Edinburgh. While there, I hope to explore the various perspectives on how culture influences societies. I’m most excited about exchanging ideas with others who will, no doubt, expand my worldview, thus enhancing my professional development.”
He has been featured in the Junior Achievement Worldwide #100Lives Campaign and is a recent recipient of the Queen’s Young Leaders Runner-up Award. He wants to inspire generations of students to not only explore STEM, but also be the best they can be. His time is spent mostly thinking about ways in which technology can transform developing nations to bring economic fruition.
British Council Country Director Olayinka JacobsBonnick is also looking forward to the summit and to working with Kee and the Jamaican delegation.
“We are very happy to be able to support Nicholas’s participation at the summit and at the youth delegate conference, which will be central to these proceedings. This is the first time Jamaica is participating in the summit, along with 38 other nations, and I will be working closely with the delegation to maximise experiential learning for both Jamaica and the UK. We anticipate a rich, productive cultural relations, exchange.”
The overarching theme of Summit 2018 is Culture: Connecting Peoples and Places. Building on the succinct and successful format of previous editions, Summit 2018 will address three key themes: Culture and Investment, and Culture and Wellbeing; and Culture in a Networked World, the details of which are announced today. Each theme will be the focus of a plenary session in the Debating Chamber of the Scottish Parliament, supported both by private policy discussions and workshops.
