Get your Pickney Pampered

- Jody-Anne Lawrence STAFF REPORTER

KIDS WILL now sit in comfort as they take a break from the pressures of school and the exhaustion of the playground.

Danielia McLean, inspired by her own journey as a mother, recently opened the doors to Pickney Pampering Salon and Barbershop, a haven for child grooming.

McLean says she was blessed with a daughter who has long thick hair but, unfortunately, she was not equipped with the styling skills to groom it to her liking and was compelled to take her to the salon.

Taking her daughter to the salon has resulted in great styles that she and her daughter loved but the environment raised several alarms for her. From the adult conversations to the safety of the children, she knew she wanted a salon that she did not have to worry about what her children were exposed to. Also, if there was a waiting period she wanted an environment that was appealing to children, where they would not get restless or uneasy. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

Pickney Pampering is a child-friendly salon for children from the ages of three to 16 years old. They specialise in haircare (cuts and styles) for boys and girls, as well as manicures and pedicures. There is a play and study area away from the actual grooming stations, so that the children are safe while enjoying their wait. This area will includes a full-time child-care

specialist and homework assistant to work with children.

The decor is bright, with a candy wall taking central focus. McLean admitted that her children’s input played an integral role in the decor and the concept of the location. She appointed them chief pickney officer and cool pickney officer as a result. They help to keep her on the ball as to the fads and trends which will help to make the store appealing.

To showcase the salon’s offerings, they had a mini hair show, where boys got to show off their clean handsome cuts and girls, their cute dos.

Pickney Pampering Salon and Barbershop is located at Shop 16U Mall Plaza in Kingston. It is open seven days a week, on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays.
