Pulse School Search Tour gets into high gear

-

IT’S A typical summer day at Pulse Fashion and Beauty Centre on Trafalgar road, and the excitement and energy of eager high-school students permeates the air.

High-energy music booms from a speaker as teenagers line up to take their turn strutting their stuff on an imaginary runway while a photographer takes aim at one of the newly discovered faces in this year’s Pulse School Search Tour. It’s all part of a high-paced series of activities leading up to the grand final set for October 6, 2018.

The new Pulse School Search Tour will expand a movement that has changed the face of personal and professional development for young people in Jamaica and beyond for close to four decades. In fact, the Pulse School Search Tour can also be seen as a formalisation of what the company began years ago when it determined that the Caribbean should be making its mark in global fashion with its top-rated talent.

So far, over 400 model hopefuls have been scouted from more than 40 schools across the island, with additional scouting exercises planned for the month of September.

Principals and parents have shown great interest in the search and its activities. “Our program will give the students great access to grooming and exceptional training. We are taking a holistic approach to the development of each individual who is a part of the search. This is a critical part of our process, and we expect that they will take away vital life skills which will serve them well beyond their time here at Pulse,” says Pulse director Romae Gordon. A strong line-up of training and grooming professionals will share their expertise at the seminars and sessions now in progress.

MODELLING PROSPECTS

The students are keen about their modelling prospects. Learning to work on their camera presence and being informed of the steps they will need to take to become a successful model are part of the whole scheme of things. For some of the participants, the walking sessions have been both challenging and exciting. “Before coming to Pulse, I had no idea how to walk in a pair of heels. Now, I feel a lot more confident, and I look forward to coming to practice each week, says a beaming student from Mt Alvernia High School.

Pulse has always been a strong advocate of education,” and although many of the company’s models have been discovered while in high school, the agency has ensured that students successfully complete their course of study before commencing full-time international careers. Pulse international models have not only been successful on an extraordinary scale working for an A– Z list of the best brands in fashion, but have created new paths for those who will follow.
