Edwards: TG can go all the way
FOLLOWING THE acquisition of the number of players in the off season, Tivoli Gardens FC’s coach, Omar Edwards, says that they have positioned themselves to make a very serious push for the Red Stripe Premier League title this season.
The west Kingston-based Tivoli who were knocked out at the quarterfinal stage of the 2017-18 competition by Cavalier, have acquired the services of striker Newton Sterling from Arnett Gardens, Michael Spence (Cavalier), Kemar Seivwright and Raymond Williamson (Molynes United), Maurice Wilson (Rae Town) and Saquille Jones of Portsmouth.
Edwards, who will be entering his third season with the club, told The Gleaner that the expectations were very high among the players and they are looking forward, with confidence, to their opening match against Montego Bay United on September 16.
“The expectation is always to win the Premier League, but we know that it is a difficult challenge. We have brought in some new players to join the players that we have from previous years, and so it is a mix of youth and experience that we believe will give us a good blend going into the new season,” said Edwards.
BETTER ATTITUDE
“Based on what I have seen so far in terms of the turnout, the attitude is getting better, I believe that this team can go all the way,” he said.
Tivoli have not won the Premier League title since 2010. However, they have managed to secure back-to-back KSAFA Jackie Bell Knockout titles over the past two seasons.
“The players here know how to win, but they just need to have the right attitude and to be consistent, and once they do this, then we are good enough to go all the way,” Edwards pointed out.
