MBU’s youths impress Coach Reynolds
MONTEGO BAY United (MBU) lost both their games in the preseason three-team football tournament and jamboree that also featured FC Reno and Mt Pleasant Football Academy at WesPow Park on Sunday, but newly appointed coach, Vassell Reynolds, is far from disappointed.
In fact, Reynolds said he was impressed by the MBU youngsters who took the opportunity to garner some experience.
MBU went down 1-0 in the first game to FC Reno and then 4-0 to newly promoted St Annbased Mt Pleasant.
“I thought that a lot of them, especially Nazine Matalie, would have expressed themselves very well ... So yes, I thought we met the objectives. Obviously, there are some signs of inexperience, as expected; however, we just have to continue to expose them as much as possible,” said Reynolds.
CONCERN
He, however, is concerned that they did not get on the scoresheet.
“I am a bit concerned that we did not score, even after creating a number of chances,” Reynolds added, while also pointing to the simple errors at the back which led to some early goals.
“In the Mt Pleasant game, we conceded in the first two minutes of the first half and then again at the beginning of the second half. So those are little things we need to look at.”
When asked about their new approach to go youth, Reynolds said it is about creating a balance.
“I think this programme needs to create a balance. We have a number of experienced players, some would have left us while some remained, so we just need to create that balance by giving the talented youngsters we saw coming through the academy their chances, and also some players that had won the daCosta Cup over the past two seasons. We are very pleased to say that they have fit in and we just have to continue working with them,” said Reynolds.
