Ann-Marie Vaz bats for equality among women
PORT ANTONIO, PORTLAND:
WITH A capacity crowd cheering her on in Portland Eastern, Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) standard-bearer Ann-Marie Vaz urged female supporters to strive for leadership roles in the society.
Vaz’s comments came Sunday night during a mass meeting held in Port Antonio, Portland, where she was officially presented as the party’s candidate for Portland Eastern in the next general election, which is constitutionally due in 2021.
“No longer do you need to walk behind your male partner, as times have changed, and women need to claim their rightful place. I am here to empower all women and to assist you all with fulfilling your dreams and aspirations. Together we can build a partnership here in East Portland, where residents can rise above the challenges. I am here to serve the people, who are in dire need of quality leadership and representation, “she added.
According to Vaz, she will be building community centres in all five parish council divisions, as she aims to provide the unattached youth with an opportunity to showcase their talents, learn skills and transform their lives into something more productive.
REVIVE SPORTS AND YOUTH CLUBS
She noted that no one would be left out of the prosperity plan, as farm roads would be rehabilitated to create access for farmers. Vaz also pledged to revive sports and youth clubs across the length and breadth of the constituency.
Entertainer Wayne Marshall set the tone for an exciting meeting with his hit single I Pray (Glory to God), which had the massive crowd in a frenzy.
And Prime Minister Andrew Holness, who officially presented Vaz to the people of Portland East, expressed confidence that she would emerge victorious in the next general election, pointing out also that she was competent, passionate, prepared, and raring to go.
