Wedderburn laughs off Munro support

- Kavarly Arnold/ Gleaner Writer

COACH OMAR ‘Rambo’ Wedderburn laughed off suggestions that arch-rivals Munro College will be cheering for his St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) this afternoon, when they face Maggotty High School in their ISSA/WATA daCosta Cup top clash in Zone E at the STETHS Sports Complex, kicking off at 3:30 p.m.

As it currently stands, Munro (4 points) will be praying for STETHS (16) to beat Maggotty (11), to increase their chances of getting to the next round. Munro would also have to get by newcomers Sydney Pagon STEM Academy, who drew their first legencounter 1-1 in Malvern, and hope for other results to go their way, if they are to progress. Wedderburn said while he’s focused on his team handling their own business, he welcomes the support from their rivals, who are battling to grab one of the two automatic spots.

“Honestly, as I always said, we like to mind our own business, and that is to try and get three points tomorrow (today). We don’t really (care) about the results of the other games. It’s on us to go out there and deliver,” Wedderburn said, laughing at the scenario.

“I think everybody is going out to support their team because in times like these, teams need all the support they can get. So I don’t think a spectator from a next school (Munro) will make it their point of duty to come and see STETHS play.

THE SUPPORT

“Whosoever want to come and support us, we are really grateful for it because everybody’s support values the same to us. If spectators from another school (Munro) want to come and see to it that we win, we’ll appreciate it, but our main focus is on getting those three points tomorrow ... . ”

Ironically, STETHS seem as if they intend to help out their bitter rivals from the hills as Wedderburn has his eyes focused on opening the gap at the top of the table.

“As usual, times will come when you have to separate yourself from others, and I think tomorrow is the perfect platform for us to really take two steps ahead in the zone. Maggotty is the closest team to us. Hopefully, tomorrow we can make that bold step to really show full dominance of this zone. It’s no different as we are not taking any game lightly, we are going with everything just the same,” said Wederburn.
