Cumberland, STATHS in crucial clash

- R.B.

PHILLIP WILLIAMS, coach of last year’s beaten finalists St Andrew Technical (STATHS), says his team is determined to secure all three points in today’s crucial Group A encounter against hosts Cumberland High in the ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup competition.

STATHS who are coming off a 0-0 draw against Papine, are second in the group with 15 points, four ahead of Cumberland. A win will increase their chances of advancing to the next round of the competition with two games remaining in the group.

St George’s College lead the group with 19 points. Tarrant are fourth with seven followed by Papine (four) and Cedar Grove (three).

The teams played out a 1-1 draw in the first round game but Williams said STATHS are aiming to collect all three points this afternoon.

“This is a very important game for us. Cumberland did well against us at our home ground and they will be looking forward to this match,” said Williams.

“With only the top two teams going through to the next round, we need to put some distance between ourselves and Cumberland,” he added.

STATHS will look to inspirational captain and goalkeeper Jaedine White, along with Warner Brown, Ackeem Brown and Anthony Nelson, to lead their charge to victory.

In the group’s other games, St George’s College will host Papine and Cedar Grove entertain Tarrant.
