Green Island focused on tough eight days ahead

COACH OF Green Island High School, Carl Palmer, said that they are now focused on their upcoming games after a disappointing 1-1 draw with Frome Technical in a Zone B ISSA/WATA daCosta Cup match at the Frome Sports Complex yesterday.

Devaunie Brown gave Green Island the lead in the 78th minute but Frome’s top marksman, Giovanni Mitto, found the equaliser two minutes later with a controversial goal.

“I don’t think it’s fair in any way because I think it was a blunder. The offside was so clear for everybody to see and it was not called so I can’t say it was a fair result. I think we should have walked away with the three points,” said Palmer who is now focused on picking up maximum points from their remaining games including their rescheduled home fixture against Frome.

MAXIMUM POINTS

“That is the objective because we can’t afford to drop another point. We are in a tough situation ...,” he added. The road ahead is difficult. Green Island are down to play their four remaining games in eight days and they must get maximum points to advance to the second round.

When asked about the tough schedule facing them Palmer said he would not blame ISSA as the weather is beyond their control.

“Yes, it’s a challenge. The hurdle is there but we just have to try and clear it. We will have to do everything that is possible to get the boys to recover and recuperate for the games on Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday again. We know we will have to prepare them mentally as well as physically,” said Palmer.

“Most of the games were postponed because of bad weather, Now we just have to go out there and play,” he added.
