Cameron, Adams for US Cricket Hall Of Fame

-

TWO JAMAICANS, Dave Cameron and Jimmy Adams, will be inducted into the United States Cricket Hall of Fame tomorrow at the Hilton Hotel, New York.

Cameron, president of Kensington Cricket Club and, more importantly, president of Cricket West Indies (UWI), will be honoured for his outstanding service as a cricket administrator, while Adams, a former Jamaica and West Indies captain, will be honoured for an outstanding career as a West Indies cricketer.

Cameron will also be the guest speaker at the banquet.

While Cameron and Adams will be inducted in the international category, two other Jamaicans, Len Chambers and Richard Staple, who both represented Jamaica but have been residing in the US for some time now, with Staple also captaining the US national team, will be inducted in the local category for services rendered.

Attending the induction ceremony as a special guest will be Sir Hilary Beckles, vice-chancellor of the University of the West Indies and a 2017 inductee into the Cricket Hall of Fame.

Sir Hilary was once a member of CWI and is the author of several books on West Indies cricket.

The Cricket Hall of Fame is stationed in Hartford, Connecticut, and was founded in 1981.

Inductees are those who have distinguished themselves locally and internationally, mostly as players but also in other areas, including administration, umpiring, and journalism.

The hall of fame has supported charitable events in Jamaica, Barbados, St Lucia, and Guyana through contributions to the Boy Scouts, youth groups, and the Alvin Kallicharran Foundation.

This year, because of the efforts of Sir Hilary Beckles, the Cricket Hall of Fame issued a community scholarship to Stephan Pink – a resident of Spanish Town, a former student at Bridgetown Primary, Kingston College, and Wolmer’s Boys’ School, and a former national Under-19 cricketer for him to attend the UWI.

Past international inductees into the Cricket Hall of Fame include George Headley, Alfred Valentine, Sonny Ramadhin, Frank Worrell, Everton Weekes, Clyde Walcott, Gary Sobers, Rohan Kanhai, Lance Gibbs, Wes Hall, Viv Richards, Lawrence Rowe, Alvin Kallicharran, Andy Roberts, Michael Holding, Courtney Walsh, Jeffrey Dujon, Sunil Gavaskar, Ajit Wadekar, Chandrasekhar, Greg Chappell, Kerry Packer, Tony Becca, and Steve Bucknor.
