Wolmer’s to honour late principal at annual banquet

-

ALUMNI OF the Wolmer’s Boys’ School will honour the memory of late former principal Eric Coleridge Barnett at their Annual Awards Banquet, set for Saturday October 20 at the Spanish Court Hotel in New Kingston.

Barnett, the longest-serving headmaster of the Heroes Circle-based boys’ school (1979-98), passed away in July of this year leaving the Wolmer’s community to mourn and reflect on his invaluable contribution to the institution.

“He taught history at various educational institutions in Jamaica, the United Kingdom, Belize and Scotland, before returning to transform the noble institution that we are all part of today,” said Steven Gooden, president of the Wolmer’s Boys’ Alumni Association (WOBA), as he noted that Barnett was a Wolmerian himself.

“Given the magnitude of his contribution to the development of Wolmer’s, the WOBA wanted to create something that reflects his importance to our development as men of standards within Jamaica, and indeed the world,” added Gooden.

During the banquet, stalwarts from the boys’ school will be awarded and all proceeds from the event will be used to seed an endowment fund to be used to meet the increasing demands for financial assistance from current and past students. The fund will be registered and governed by trustees from WOBA.

Tickets are available through members or at the school and retail for J$10,000 each.
