JAMAICA’S SUNSHINE Girls will be aiming for a series victory today when they take on rivals England Roses in Game Two of their three-Test Lasco Sunshine Series at the National Indoor Sports Centre. Match time is 6 p.m.

The Sunshine Girls, ranked fourth in the world, two places below the Roses, lead the series 1-0 following an impressive 55-43 win in Game One on Thursday.

The Sunshine Girls dominated the opening encounter, but head coach Marvette Anderson says she is expecting a much tougher encounter from the Roses.

“I don’t think they are going to roll over and play dead, but we are not going to give it up, and so we will be hunting that win on Saturday,” said Anderson after the win on Thursday night.

“The ladies know what is at stake. They want the win, and they are going to work hard, and I think it is going to be a good game,” she added.

The Jamaicans will once again be relying heavily on captain Jhaniele Fowler, who netted an impressive 34 goals from 35 attempts in Game One. She is expected to receive strong support from goal attack Shanice Beckford. Khadijah Williams and Adean Thomas will marshall the midcourt while Shamera Sterling, Stacian Facey and Vangelee Williams are the top defenders.

The Roses, who defeated the Sunshine Girls by one point in the semifinals of this year’s Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, will be led by Helen Housby, who netted 27 goals from 35 attempts in Game One.

Game Three of the series will be played on Monday at the same venue.

‘The ladies know what is at stake. They want the win, and they are going to work hard, and I think it is going to be a good game.’
