THE JAMAICA Co-operative Credit Union League commends First Regional Co-operative Credit Union on the opening of your branch office at Northside Plaza in Kingston. Who would have thought it? A credit union with its main office in rural Jamaica, opening a branch in the Kingston Metropolitan Region. But First Regional Credit Union, you did it. Rural to urban migration of a credit union is a new phenomenon in the movement. But with both a changing financial landscapes and the change in consumer behaviour, all things are now possible.

Therefore, on behalf of your League, I want to pay tribute to your credit union for considering your members by providing this branch in Kingston, and to the visionaries who made all of this possible.

We consider the provision of an attractive, accessible and welcoming branch an important step towards service excellence. We are sure that your members are beaming with joy to have the convenience of this branch, as it will definitely save them some time and money. And in today’s world, who does not want to do both?

Service excellence is about exceeding your members’ needs and expectations. In fact, wowing them is what it’s about. Members are constantly looking for that something that makes their experience with your credit union different and special. And you continue to deliver. This must be part of what has earned you the Mega Credit Union of the Year Award a record number of times.

However, if this credit union intends to continue to grow and become a force to reckon with in the financial sector, you also need to understand your members better then your competitors and serve them in ways that will create an emotional bond/affinity. Your members must also be educated about the co-operative principle and the credit union philosophy that show the credit union difference.

Finally, it is said that our members are our greatest assets and our employees, even greater assets. So I urge you, First Regional Co-operative Credit Union to ensure that you nurture your assets – your members and employees. This will result in guaranteed monumental growth.
