Conu’co Market at the Cove delights again
WITH PARTICIPANTS from the length and breadth of Jamaica turning out for the third Conu’co Market at the Cove at Grizzly’s Plantation in Priory, St Ann, patrons were delighted to see the wide variety of made-in-Jamaica items available.
In keeping with the theme, ‘Locally Made, Grown and Sewn,’ participants brought out their best in fashion, art, craft, ice cream, pastry, fruits, vegetables, flowers, plants and several other items.
Manufacturers proudly presented their products – scented candles, massage oils, soaps, organic hair and skin products, hats, bags, mats and rugs, jewellery, accessories and jams and jellies; the list was long.
Smoothies, coconut drops, gizzadas, cupcakes, sweet potato pudding, coconut water, sandwiches, and so much more was there to be enjoyed!
Held for the first time in May, then in July, and with a fourth market set for December 2, organiser Amanda Maffessanti is happy for the growth of Conu’co Market at the Cove, a concept she said was missing from the north coast.
“It’s a concept I felt the north coast was lacking in,” she told The Gleaner. “Events like this are mostly held in Kingston, and I felt we needed something like this on the north coast. Since our first market in May, it has grown incredibly. This latest event was a huge success for us. All of us are super happy at how it turned out.”
Several would-be participants had to be turned away from participating in the day’s event, but they should be able to do so in December as the organisers make space for them.
The main thing: Products have to be made in Jamaica.
Asheka Headley, owner and founder of Ayondae’s Collection in Montego Bay, returned after first participating in July.
Her collection includes a variety of personalised bags and cushions for men, women and children, and according to her: “We’re coming for the second time, and it has been really great. We’ve seen a lot more persons who have taken interest in my items, so overall, it has been a good day. I’ll definitely be back in December.”
