Cavalier’s Nelson ready for next big step

HAVING REPRESENTED the country at the Under-15 and Under-17 levels, Nicholas Nelson has his eyes set on climbing the ladder to senior representation.

The former Hydel star who currently plays for Cavalier, was delighted to break his goal scoring duck in the Red Stripe Premier in his team’s 5-1 demolition of Montego Bay United on Sunday.

“I’m feeling very good about this one as it’s my first in the Premier League after featuring for four seasons and finally scoring” the elated Nelson said.

The forward is now playing in his fifth campaign and also playing for his fourth club.

“I played two seasons at Rivoli FC but didn’t play much because of being engaged in schoolboy football. My two seasons at Rivoli were followed by one season at Waterhouse FC and I spent last season at Maverly FC” he explained.

TIME TO GET SERIOUS

Having been prolific as a schoolboy the striker now thinks it is time to put his shoulder to the wheel in order to fulfil his dreams of playing professionally overseas and reaching the top rung of national football.

“I’m taking every step forward very seriously at this point as I want to get into the National team and from there get a contract to go overseas. To do so, I must show what I can do in the Premier League and that’s what I aim to do as I need to progress because I’m not getting younger” the St Catherine resident said.

Having already donned the National colours at youth level the 20 year-old knows that he is in the eyes of those in charge of selection but must produce in order to make that count.

“In terms of the senior team they told me that I need to be one of the standouts in the Premier League, so that’s what I am going to do. I am taking this season very seriously as I hope to get a call-up for the national team,” he declared.
