Defending champs JC face Wolmer’s in crucial clash
ANDREW PEART, head coach of defending champions Jamaica College (JC), says that today’s encounter against Wolmer’s Boys in the ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup competition is crucial in his team’s quest to secure a spot in the semi-finals of the tournament.
JC, who are seeking their sixth straight hold on the title, will face Wolmer’s at the Stadium East field, starting at 1 p.m., in a Group G clash.
In the second match of the double-header, Holy Trinity will oppose St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS).
Holy Trinity lead the group with three points, with JC and STATHS both on one point after their 0-0 draw in the opening game of the round. Wolmer’s were beaten 2-1 by Holy Trinity in their first game.
VERY CONFIDENT
Peart said that his team is highly motivated and very confident ahead of today’s encounter. However, despite their opponents losing their first game, they are not going to take them for granted.
“It is a must-win game, and we are preparing to come out and execute all that we have planned for the group,” said Peart. “We are not taking them lightly because it is a quarterfinal group, and there are a lot of quality teams here, and so despite them losing the first game, it doesn’t signify anything about the level of quality that they possess.”
“We know what we have to do, and we just have to come out with the mindset to do that,” Peart continued.
Peart added that he was expecting a very strong performance from his team in all departments today.
“You can expect a top-quality performance from our team because we need to show what we can do while nullifying our opponents,” said Peart.
The Dark Blues will be depending heavily on the likes of Norman Campbell, Calvin Allen, and Shadane Lopez to lead them to an all-important victory today.
On the other hand, the Alex Thomas-coached Wolmer’s will rest their hopes in the hands of Revaldo Mitchell and Clayton Haynes.
Meanwhile, in Group H, which will be played at the Calabar High School, Charlie Smith will tackle Kingston College at 1 p.m. while St George’s College battle Camperdown at 3 p.m.
