Tracking device for our children

-

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IN RESPONSE to the astronomical increase of missing persons, more so young girls, my solution is that every child in Jamaica who travels to school independently should be equipped with some sort of tracking device. This may be a cell phone with the Stay Alert app, or any other device applicable to this crisis issue.

Jamaica has reached a point where no one really cares about political points, economic growth figures nor any evaluation by world bodies if our young girls are turning up dead after leaving home for school.

There are numerous people in corporate society and concerned citizens both locally and abroad who are tearing their hair out trying to find solutions to the situation. Many of us would be more than ready to contribute even one such device to one child.

Contract a reasonable body/ business/person to develop the device and the software. Start with the cell phone companies who are making a lavish living off poor people. Next comes the various past students’ associations, charitable organisations, overseas bodies, individuals, you name it ... Do something!

Desperate times call for desperate measures, and we just don’t get the impression Jamaica is treating this as the crisis it truly is.
