St Catherine put ISSA rivals on notice

ST CATHERINE High School’s netballers sent out a strong signal to their rivals on Friday in the second set of urban of matches in the ISSA Schoolgirl­s Netball Competitio­n at the Leila Robinson Courts as the Phyllis Thompson-coached teams had double success.

Playing in Group 1, the St John’s Road-based teams from Spanish Town first got by José Marti 39-16 in junior play, where they are defending champions, before the senior side took care of their counterpar­ts from José Marti with an impressive 69-11 win – the biggest on the day by any team.

For the seniors, who are hoping to emulate their juniors, who went all the way last year, it was smooth sailing all the way, with quarterly scores of 18-1, 32-5, 52-6, and 69-11.

Gaynstead joined St Catherine at the top of Group One in both juniors and seniors, with six points, as the Dalton Hinds-coached teams made it two wins from two games. The juniors came out on top over Bridgeport 38-16 before the seniors had a big 42-12 win over Meadowbroo­k.

Both St Catherine and Gaynstead will feature in mega clashes in tomorrow’s third set of matches as both juniors and seniors will meet in top-of-thetable Group One matches. I St Catherine 69 - 11 José Marti
