‘Little Country, Big Winners’: a motivation for the young ones

Tanya Lee launches colouring book

-

CARIBBEAN SPORTS marketer, publicist and columnist Tanya Lee, has launched her second book.

Lee, who debuted her first book in January 2018, called The Winner Within: Lessons from Sports About Accomplishing Anything, has followed up this effort with a reading and colouring book, titled Little Country, Big Winners. Little Country, Big Winners is aimed at children age three to 10 years old and is a visual and literary celebration of Jamaica’s athletes who have done very well on the global stage. The illustrations, done by Nicholas Perkins, are accompanied by stories about how each athlete identified or developed their talent at a young age and went on to do great things for Jamaica on the global stage.

In explaining why she veered into children’s literature, Lee said, “My first book was aimed at aspiring athletes and adults, but this time around, I wanted to use our athletes to motivate the younger ones instead. I want Jamaican children to see that not all superheroes wear capes or are from Marvel comics. Our sports icons are a great example of what ambition, hard work and achievement looks like, and celebrating our own achievements adds to the national selfesteem. This is an important message.”

I chose to make my reading book a colouring book as well, because colouring is not only fun, it helps children to associate key information with their visual memory. They will not only read about our great athletes, but they will gain their own sense of accomplishment as they add colour to each illustration.”
